January was definitely a warm one but some areas of the UP still found a way to get a “decent “ snow cover going into February. I talked to family in Paradise up near White Fish Point today and they are getting close to 2 feet on the ground there. Snow amounts will range from 4-6 west & east, 1-3 south, and 7-9 in the higher elevations. The deepest being in the higher elevations of the western UP where there is 30-36 inches. Take caution through tomorrow as lake-effect snow will continue across the north. Winter Storm Olive is set to track across the country this week, spreading snow and ice and snarling travel from the Rockies and Northern Plains into the Great Lakes and parts of the Northeast. Snow depths in Michigan vary depending on where you’re at but the least amount is in our normal “ Banana belt” areas being extreme south east MI around the Detroit area and south which is pretty common. Sounds like this coming week will cool off and stay pretty dry other then a little lake effect snow showers/flurry’s once in a while. Was just out in Port Huron and there’s no ice that I saw anywhere on the lake or the St Clair river which is pretty unusual for almost February. Snowed pretty hard last night and the fresh snow really makes it look like the dead of winter like it is currently. We have about 6” of snow on the ground, maybe a little more but the exact depth doesn’t matter to much to me like most other weather geeks it seems. 10 Day Weather - Long Lake Township, MI As of 12:02 pm EST Small Craft Advisory Today 44°/ 25° 4 Sun 19 Day 44° 4 SW 16 mph Overcast.
